A trip to Kyoto, which has been four years since my last visit. As the Shinkansen (bullet train) approached Kyoto, passing Nagoya Station, the excitement within me grew. This time, I will be staying at Tawaraya Ryokan. I made the reservation directly by phone six months in advance.

We had lunch at Kyoto Station and then took a taxi to visit Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine. I am grateful to be able to visit Kyoto again with renewed energy. Although there was a high chance of precipitation on that day, fortunately, we didn't encounter a single drop of rain.

There were many students on school trips that stood out. On the other hand, there weren't as many foreign tourists as there used to be. I was able to capture a moment with no one around the thousands of torii gates. After that, we took a taxi to visit Tō-ji Temple.
The weather was refreshing and sunny, creating a pleasant autumn atmosphere. I paid my respects to the Buddha statues in the Hōdō (Dharma Hall) and the Kondō (Golden Hall) after a long time.

The angle of the five-story pagoda at Tō-ji Temple is a favorite photo spot for me, especially during the overlapping seasons of the lotus and the Gion Festival. Although the lotus season had passed this time, I took a commemorative photo here.
Afterward, I was taken to Tawaraya Ryokan in Fuyacho. The taxi fare from Kyoto Station to the two destinations was 7,820 yen.
I was finally able to stay at the long-admired Tawaraya Ryokan. I was thrilled by the rumored welcome of the male staff members, the ambiance of the ryokan, the elegance of the entrance, and the beauty of the folding screen paintings.
L'angle de la pagode à cinq étages du temple Tō-ji est un endroit que j'affectionne particulièrement pour prendre des photos, surtout pendant les saisons superposées du lotus et du festival Gion. Bien que la saison du lotus soit passée cette fois-ci, j'ai pris une photo commémorative ici.
Ensuite, je suis allé au Ryokan Tawaraya à Fuyacho. Le tarif du taxi de la gare de Kyoto aux deux destinations était de 7 820 yens.

The moment we entered, we were breathless at the beauty of the rich greenery in the garden. Moss-covered stone lanterns and a stone water basin. Maple leaves, ferns, and vibrant grass (known as "Kita-jōsō" in Japanese). I wonder how much effort it takes to maintain them. It's a luxury to be able to appreciate them from the comfort of our room.

We were escorted to our room by a male staff member, and then a female staff member brought us the famous warabi mochi and prepared tea for us.

Upon returning to our room, we immediately enjoyed the bath. The bathtub was made of hinoki wood (Japanese cypress), emitting a pleasant fragrance, and the water temperature was just right. It was incredibly soothing. I found myself daydreaming again, wishing I had a wooden bathtub like that at home. However, I imagine it would be quite challenging to maintain its beauty for a long time.

I changed into a refreshing yukata. The refrigerator had a chilled beer and a glass as a complimentary service.
We had requested dinner to be served from 18:30. Finally, the moment I had been looking forward to arrived—the start of dinner. The room attendant kindly offered me a drink with chrysanthemum petals floating on it, saying, "Please enjoy a toast first." It was a refined touch to have chrysanthemum sake on the occasion of the Chōyō Festival.

Apetizers. Each one is delicious. There's the crab and chrysanthemum flower and leaf marinated in persimmon container, the steamed eel and roe manju, the simmered small taro with bonito flakes, the lily bulb in pine needle dressing, the hisui ginkgo nut,
Small rice bowl. Ise lobster and kudzu starch paste, grated needle ginger, and trefoil leaves.
Mukōzuke. We enjoyed flounder with soy sauce, sweet shrimp with sesame salt, and sea bream with pine needle dressing, each prepared in three different flavors. As for the beverage, we had "Tawaraya," a Japanese sake, served as chilled sake.
Nimono. We had simmered dishes including Gūji yuba tsukimi tofu prepared in the traditional Toku style with sesame paste, knotted wheat gluten, mizuna greens, and kinome (young leaves of the Japanese pepper plant). The flavors of sesame and the aroma of kinome served as delightful accents. The Gūji (sweet sea bream) was incredibly delicious.
Grilled Dish: Two-Tone Grilled Managatsuo (Spanish Mackerel) - one is prepared in Nishijin style and the other is Lemon-grilled (fish wrapped around a maitake mushroom and grilled). Inside a container carved from sudachi citrus, there is lotus root.
The Left Dish: Grilled Anago (Conger Eel) and Eggplant Simmered in Soy Sauce, Mitsuboshi Beans, and Ginger.
Hot Dish: Winter Melon with Vegetable Sauce, served in a clay pot and shared among us. The ingredients included red potato, ginkgo nuts, shiitake mushrooms, enoki mushrooms, carrots, okra, shrimp, eel, and needle yuzu.
Horse mackerel rolled in daikon radish skin with vinegar dressing.
Miso Soup, with a blend of miso and sprinkled with sansho pepper, giving it a Kyoto-like flavor. The pickled water eggplant and cucumber were seasoned with ginger soy sauce. The deliciousness of the rice complemented the meal perfectly.
Mizumono (Fruit-based dessert): Poached Koshu Figs in Wine. It had a refined sweetness and the juicy fruit was absolutely delicious.
After the meal, We took a stroll around the inn. We enjoyed observing the moody courtyard illuminated by candlelight.

The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the room was quiet, providing a soothing atmosphere. I was able to sleep soundly until morning.

The next morning, unfortunately, it was raining, but the maple leaves appeared moist and beautiful. The raindrops dripping from the stone basin added an elegant touch. I greeted the resident cat with affection.

For breakfast, I had the option to choose between juice or yogurt as a wake-up drink. I requested grilled fish, and it was prepared using Guji fish. The soup was a miso soup with clams. The variety of dishes was not for show; everything was delicious.

We were served Kyoto-style yudofu for breakfast, which is typical of Kyoto mornings. It came with charcoal to keep the hot water and broth warm. The tofu was sourced from a longstanding tofu shop near the inn.

After the meal, I settled the bill in my room and waited until the taxi arrived. The location, history, facilities, decor, cultural exhibits, the blend of traditional and Western sensibilities, the beautiful garden, the cuisine, and the staff's hospitality all came together to make this inn, which is said to be the pinnacle of Japanese hospitality, truly exceptional. I expressed my deep admiration for the beauty of the greenery in the garden to the room attendant, who then informed me about the stunning view from the second floor of the Maple Room in the new building. I immediately tried to make a reservation for next year's Gion Festival eve, but unfortunately, I was told that the entire inn was already fully booked on that day (what a disappointment). However, I would love to revisit in a different season.
When I was about to leave, the footwear that was arranged for me at the entrance was impeccably polished (truly impressive).
Après le repas, j'ai réglé la facture dans ma chambre et attendu l'arrivée du taxi. L'emplacement, l'histoire, les installations, la décoration, les expositions culturelles, le mélange de sensibilités traditionnelles et occidentales, le magnifique jardin, la cuisine et l'hospitalité du personnel ont tous contribué à faire de cette auberge, considérée comme l'apogée de l'hospitalité japonaise, une véritable exception. J'ai exprimé mon profond admiration pour la beauté de la verdure dans le jardin à la femme de chambre, qui m'a ensuite parlé de la vue époustouflante depuis le deuxième étage de la salle Maple du nouveau bâtiment. J'ai immédiatement essayé de réserver pour la veille du Festival de Gion de l'année prochaine, mais malheureusement, on m'a dit que toute l'auberge était déjà complète ce jour-là (quelle déception). Cependant, j'aimerais beaucoup revenir à une autre saison.
Au moment de partir, les chaussures qui m'avaient été préparées à l'entrée étaient impeccablement cirées (vraiment impressionnant).
