Visiting Yukawa Onsen in Iwate: Shikisai-no-yado Furusato

We stayed at Furusato, a ryokan called "Shikisai no Yado," located in Yukawa Onsen. On our way to the ryokan, we witnessed a unique collaboration of snow and cherry blossoms. There were lingering patches of snow in the shaded areas, while the cherry blossoms were starting to bloom beautifully. It was a rare sight to see the combination of snow and cherry blossoms.

The state of the front desk was welcoming and well-organized.

We opted for the Standard Plan and stayed in a beautifully designed Japanese-modern double room.

The room was equipped with a private hot spring bath, featuring natural hot spring water that flowed directly from the source. It was a luxurious amenity that allowed us to enjoy the hot spring experience at any time we desired.

The temperature of the hot spring water in the bath was initially quite hot, so we added some cold water to adjust it to a comfortable level.

The view from outside showcased a picturesque scene of a mountain stream and a steep cliff on the opposite bank, adding to the charm of the surroundings. We were also able to enjoy similar scenery from the large communal bath, creating a truly captivating experience.

We had our dinner in a private dining room at the restaurant.

We were served a platter of seasonal appetizers, showcasing a variety of dishes made with fresh and seasonal ingredients.

This dish consists of a white asparagus potage soup(surinagasi) and urui (Japanese fern) ohitashi.

For the sashimi course, we were served fresh cuts of honmaguro (bluefin tuna), sawara (Spanish mackerel), and hotate-gai (scallop).

For the main course, we enjoyed Iwate-gyu (Iwate beef) shabu-shabu.

We paired the meal with a local sake from Iwate Prefecture called "Asa Hiraki Kassen Junmai," served warm. It was absolutely delicious and complemented the flavors of the meal perfectly.

As part of the meal, we enjoyed a dish called "takiawase," which is a traditional Japanese simmered dish featuring a variety of seasonal ingredients.

One of the dishes included tempura with a unique twist - it featured octopus wrapped in mountain vegetables and deep-fried to perfection.

We enjoyed a bowl of "Ginga no Shizuku" rice, which had a delightful sticky texture and was incredibly delicious. Additionally, we were served a flavorful soup as a side dish.

For dessert, we were served a delightful matcha mousse and a cherry blossom tart, providing a perfect ending to the meal.

After returning to our room, we indulged in the hot spring bath, enjoying the ultimate relaxation and tranquility.

The following morning, it was drizzling with light rain.

 the breakfast venue

This is a specialty called "Yuda Milk," which is famous in the region. It is known for its rich and delicious flavor.

We were thoroughly satisfied with the abundant variety of dishes served for breakfast.

After the meal, we took a short nap and checked out at 10 a.m. It was truly a delightful weekend.
